New Mayor

[edit]

Paul Hurley didn't ask the council to re-ppoint him, so former mayor and councilman Douglas Weberling has been selected. Hurley will likely be appointed Vice Mayor.

Incorporated

[edit]

Bristol, Virginia was incorporated 1891 as the city of Goodson.

Tri Cities

[edit]

Are both Bristols part of the Tri Cities? Why isn't it the Quad Cities? --Gbleem 04:14, 12 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

They kind of "count" it is One city, for some odd reason...

I brought that up to the mayor once, and he said he had never thought of it.

"Bristol, Virginia ranks near the bottom of Virginia localities in education, healthcare, and income."

[edit]

I hate removed this sentence from the article:

"Bristol, Virginia ranks near the bottom of Virginia localities in education, healthcare, and income."

It would be nice if this assertion could be backed up with a citation or two. --Takeel 02:41, 26 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Population

Given the extreme influx of illegal immigrants, the figures regarding the Hispanic population of that area are comically erroneous. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.44.151.35 (talk) 04:40, 22 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Location

[edit]

If Bristol is on the VA-TN border, then it certainly isn't where the red dot on the accompanying map is. 12.76.144.235 15:07, 9 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Merger

[edit]

Do you think we should merge the articles Bristol, Virginia and Bristol, Tennessee? GlobetrotterUltima (talk) 17:10, 10 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

That's not a bad idea, really. What would we call it though? --BDD (talk) 21:58, 14 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Wikisource

[edit]

I added the Wikisource link to the 1911 Encylopedia Britanica article on Bristol, Tennessee because the article talks about both cities fairly evenly. EddieV2003 (talk) 22:32, 23 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Question about State Street, TN Route 1

[edit]

Is the westbound side of State Street in Virginia, and would the westbound side still also be TN 1 if that side were to be in Virginia?

Border towns arent twin cities with themselves

[edit]

If a two towns that are fairly close to each other but are relatively independent grow into each other, then you could say they are twinned. But surely if a single town is founded on or near a border, and the growth of the town means some suburbs, or even the main business district of the town is now on the other side of the border, surely it is still one town. The parts of the town over the border are not twinned with itself. A state line through a town doesnt automatically create twins. Newark is not a twin of New York. So I'm having trouble with the constant reference of Bristol TN/VA being referred to as a twin city of itself. Surely a requiste of a twin is that they have different names! 210.7.132.80 (talk) 02:54, 22 June 2011 (UTC) [reply]
