Can someone please put in a bit about how to correctly pronounce the word "Tehuantepec?" 99.149.193.41 (talk) 22:00, 8 March 2015 (UTC)BeaMyra[reply]

'The next contract was fruitless because of the death of the contractor, and the third failed to complete the work within the sum specified (2,700,000).' Pesos? US Dollars? Pollinator 02:21, Aug 23, 2004 (UTC)

Or UK Pounds? Perhaps someone should check a copy of the 1911 Britannica to see what the usual currency they quoted figures in was, or if it was specified in the original but lost in conversion to Wikipedia text. -- Infrogmation 02:52, 23 Aug 2004 (UTC)
According to EB 1911 the amount was £2,700,000 and the article now states that and cites the reference for the claim (an answer that apparently only took just under 7 years to come up with). 69.126.127.193 (talk) 00:42, 29 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Elmer R. Corthell's proposed Interoceanic Ship Railway at Tehuantepec

[edit]

I am working here in the North of England Institute of Mining and Mechanical Engineers and in one of their collections reference Tracts 23 page 324 ff we have a sizeable 1885 pamphlet with several fold out drawings The Interoceanic Problem and its Scientific Solution by Elmer R. Corthell published by The American Association for the Advancement of Science, Ann Arbor, Michigan, 1885. I have uploaded one image at Railway Cradle. The article presently makes no reference to Corthell and at my distance I am not sure where he fits in. It is clearly about a ship carrying railway across the isthmus of Tehuantepec. If this interests an editor, the whole article has been scanned and the Institute would likely co-operate with someone who needed to see it all.Robertforsythe (talk) 14:06, 17 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
