Leafs GM

[edit]

I'm confused ... a lot of articles on the Maple Leafs say that Day was merely assistant GM, but his Hockey Hall of Fame plaque (viewable here says he was GM during the 1957-58 season. I'd have raised this on the Talk page before, but I thought the HHOF was authoritative enough that I could just be bold. Where's the conflict? Maybe it's my perspective from a guy in a non-traditional market, but I don't understand. Blueboy96 15:08, 24 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Based on the notes on the leafs general manages list "From 1955 to 1957, Smythe turned over most of his authority over day-to-day hockey operations to Hap Day, but remained general manager on paper and The Leafs did not have an official general manager during the 1957-58 NHL season; Smythe, as chairman of the Silver Seven (a committee overseeing the Leafs' hockey operations), was effectively general manager." However, it could also be said that Hap Day was the defacto GM since he was assistant. -Djsasso (talk) 23:03, 2 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
