"It is the testing ground for the US Government's newest Gismos and Gadgets."

What does that mean? It may indeed be important, but....? - signed by an anon IP

I believe the anon IP referred to the El Centro Naval Air Station (the Carrizo Desert Impact Area), the decommissioned Salton Sea Naval Base (rumors of nuclear tests in the 1960's) and way to the north is the Chocolate Mountains Aerial Gunnery Range are examples of secret government weaponry programs. The editor could be more precise and said it in easier terms on where exactly is the testing ground sites, but here are the areas known to perform them. + 71.102.53.48 (talk) 23:01, 26 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Famous People

[edit]

Seems as if we have a lot of "famous people" listed here, who don't have Wiki entries. I wonder, if they're famous enough to be listed, don't they deserve their own pages? If so, would it be too much to ask that you write the person's page before adding them to this list? And if they're not notable enough to deserve a page, they don't need to be listed here? Pending disagreement, I may move those people here until they have a page describing who they are.--Justfred (talk) 18:46, 11 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Removed:--Justfred (talk) 16:19, 14 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Someone has added them again, but hasn't made any more effort to show that these people are at all notable. I concur with Justfred's concerns, and I've removed the redlinked people again. I left the football player, for whom there is an article. Mimetic Polyalloy (talk) 20:24, 5 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
It may be noted that the person who added the links, Beerbuff (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log), has contributed only edits that might be felt to be promotional. Mimetic Polyalloy (talk) 20:28, 5 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I am adding a section called "Notable people" since this is the first article I have seen that does not have one and it will be blue linked people only. Jooojay (talk) 08:28, 9 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Everyone!

[edit]

I am from the SD area an have a bit of experience with El Centro and the Imperial Valley as a whole. I plan to improve some parts of the article but mostly plan on adding photos to better illustrate El Centro. As always, comments, suggestions, ideas. SoCal L.A. Highways

[edit]

"Agriculture has been an important industry within El Centro since the 1940s, because of its strategic location near rail lines and U.S. Highways 80 and 99." Old highway 80 is for the most part I-8 now but there are some stretches where the old highway parallels the interstate highway. However, Highway 99 was replaced by I-5 (except in the central valley of Calif where it parallels I-5 somewhat). The old #99 south from Indio is now SR 86 to Brawley where two state highways, 86 and 111 south to Calexico could be considered Rte 99. Dangnad (talk) 00:11, 10 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
