Wikipedia:Requests for page protection

Page semi-protected
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
(Redirected from Wikipedia:RFP)
Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here.

Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Current requests for increase in protection level

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Place requests for new or upgrading pending changes, semi-protection, full protection, move protection, create protection, template editor protection, or upload protection at the BOTTOM of this section. Check the archive of fulfilled and denied requests or, failing that, the page history if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Semi-protection: ip user persistently attempting to make a change without discussing. i believe protection might lead them to the talk page. cogsan (nag me) (stalk me) 19:57, 16 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

for the record, i don't know of any interval. the edits seem to be sporadic (could be a day, could be a month), so i won't make any suggestions for time cogsan (nag me) (stalk me) 20:02, 16 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Declined @Cogsan: Thanks for posting on talk. However, it's too minor to worry about at the moment and I suggest trying to get other opinions, for example at a relevant wikiproject (see the headers at the top of talk). I don't know what the right wording should be, but the IP is making the point that, in an encyclopedia, theory refers to more than speculation about someone's non appearance. Johnuniq (talk) 10:01, 18 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Persistent removal of logo images for multiple Paramount TV channels in Australia by IP users, including on the articles for 10 Bold Drama, 10 Peach Comedy and Nickelodeon. Yours sincerely, Bas (or TechGeek105) (talk to me) 07:35, 17 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of one month, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Johnuniq (talk) 10:21, 18 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: Persistent disruptive editing, both with IPs and socks, nearly 2 dozen edits/reverts over 6 days. Alivardi (talk) 09:58, 17 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of one month, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Johnuniq (talk) 10:23, 18 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: IP Address and @Xizx12 vandalized the disambiguation page, and other edits are irrelevant in disambiguation page. Royiswariii (talk) 10:25, 17 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of one week, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Johnuniq (talk) 10:37, 18 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Long term vandal who keeps changing IPs and vandalising the page every few days for months now. Many of their previous IPs have been blocked but they keep changing IPs. Bennv123 (talk) 11:04, 17 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of one month, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Johnuniq (talk) 10:39, 18 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: Persistent vandalism by Shurbanm (talk · contribs). I applied for intervention against vandalism, nothing. Beshogur (talk) 12:03, 17 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Already protected. @Beshogur: The article was semi-protected indefinitely a long time ago. There can't be more protection unless there is evidence of a very significant problem. The recent edits have been removed as copy violations and the editor warned. Let me know with a ping at article talk if more is needed and I might have some advice. Johnuniq (talk) 10:46, 18 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: Persistent addition of unsourced date information, from newly created accounts this month of August 2024. Hotwiki (talk) 12:10, 17 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Declined @Hotwiki: The user will soon be auto-confirmed and semi-protection will not be effective. Please try to engage them in a discussion on article talk. A quick look suggests a source might have been added since your request here. Ping me from the talk page if there is a problem. Johnuniq (talk) 10:50, 18 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism by multiple IPs. PadFoot (talk) 12:28, 17 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite extended confirmed protection: Arbitration enforcement – WP:CT/KURD. Skitash (talk) 15:29, 17 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Extended confirmed protected indefinitely. Johnuniq (talk) 11:02, 18 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent addition of unsourced or poorly sourced content – There is an IP user (with dynamic IP) keeps adding unsourced content (which probably breaks other wikipedia guidelines too) and he is not interested in discussing, so I thought making the page semi protected will help. Sports2021 (talk) 16:21, 17 August 2024 (UTC). (talk) 16:21, 17 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism. Ravensfire (talk) 21:35, 17 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of one month, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Johnuniq (talk) 11:09, 18 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: Every time in recent months this page has been unprotected, it has been swiftly been vandalised by a party who is conducting a campaign of online harassment against the subject. That campaign is still continuing and is under a police investigation. Therefore ongoing protection would be appropriate in the meantime. EC84 (talk) 22:05, 17 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection: BLP policy violations – Severe BLP violations. Article has been protected 4 times already and I think its time for this article to be protected for quite some time or indefinitely. 🛧Midori No Sora♪🛪 ( ☁=☁=✈) 04:53, 18 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism. — Czello (music) 09:36, 18 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: Persistent IP unsourced edits. Not sure if some kind of block can be applied to the IP user/s that have been repeatedly warned about unsourced opinions on BLP page, mainly User:79.244.59.253. StewdioMACK (talk) 09:42, 18 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for reduction in protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin at their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

    • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page" which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
    • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
    • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
    • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Reason: Should redirect to Hashtag United F.C. as an alternative name for Spencer FC (Spencer Carmichael-Brown), also Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Spencer Owen was about a different person of the same name. Sahaib (talk) 09:02, 18 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for edits to a protected page

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

    • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
    • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
    • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
    • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
    • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.

"Israeli military activities in the Gaza Strip remained unchanged following adoption of the resolution" needs a marker: citation needed. AmbroseVenture (talk) 18:42, 17 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

"On 28 March, the IDF shot and killed two unarmed men in central Gaza, before burying them in sand with bulldozers.[397]" needs to be altered, the source gives two contradicting stories which CNN (the source) didn't clear up. In the article AJ argues without evidence the two videos they present are from the same people, the IDF tells those were two separate incidents. This has to be cleared up to remain factual.
