Wikipedia:Requests for page protection

Page semi-protected
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
(Redirected from Wikipedia:RfP)
Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here.

Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

List of highest-grossing Indian Bengali films

Reason: Over the past few weeks, this page has been constantly vandalised by different users from different IP addresses. They don't have any account on Wikipedia. I don't know whether it is the same person or different persons, but they are constantly vandalising the box office number of the films. I have tried to warn a few of them using vandalism templates of levels 1,2 and 3. But the disruptive edits don't seem to stop.

In this space of box office of Indian Bengali films, there is very less number of editors. So, I can't rule out the possibility of an important edit coming from a unregistered user with a IP address. On the other hand, it is also required to stop such disruptive edits. It is becoming really difficult to revert such edits almost daily.

Hence, I would request the administrators to provide a Pending changes level of protection to this page. If you feel right, then add maximum semi-protection to the page. Please don't add higher level of protection than this, because then, there will be very few editors left to edit "the page already edited very few editors".

I would also request to block those IP addresses because they might cause disruptive edits in the pages of the films which they don't like.

Reason: Requesting temporary semi-protection. Article has been consistently vandalized for the past several months, almost exclusively by IP editors. A majority of the recent edit log is just vandalism and reverts. CitrusHemlock 09:39, 13 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for reduction in protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin at their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

    • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page" which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
    • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
    • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
    • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

    Reason: Semi-protection no longer needed as Wikipedia:General sanctions/COVID-19 editing restrictions lifted. 49.150.14.10 (talk) 06:01, 12 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

It should be noted that any sanctions in place at the time WP:ARBCOVID was passed were automatically converted into discretionary sanctions. That doesn't invalidate this request, however; "legacy" sanctions, to my knowledge, weren't grandfathered in when DS became CTOPs and this falls well outside the one-year enforcement privilege. —Jéské Couriano v^_^v threads critiques 15:31, 12 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for edits to a protected page

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

    • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
    • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
    • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
    • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
    • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.

    Yasuke

I'm not sure why the aticle describes Yasuke as a samurai. For justification to state that, there should be some official documents saying that Yasuke was indeed granted the rank of samurai. There are none. The do not exist. They state he was a retainer, which is very different... No official historical documents or accounts depict or mention him as a samurai yet the article states his being a samurai as fact. Can all mentions of him being a samurai be removed? The following should be altered: "Yasuke (Japanese: 弥助 / 弥介, Japanese pronunciation: [jasɯ̥ke]) was a man of African origin[2][3] who served as a samurai"

"As a samurai, he was granted a servant, a house and stipend"

"first recorded foreigner to receive the title of samurai" (is is not recorded...)

Most of the attributions for samurai are 2024 or very modern opinions. That's absolutely ridiculous. There are no historical documents saying such and should not be considered true.

    Thank you. BleachBoy18 (talk) 07:30, 13 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Not done. @BleachBoy18: This is already addressed in the FAQ at the top of the talk page, and also there seem to be extensive talk page discussion on this topic. ~Anachronist (talk) 07:49, 13 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
