An "ark" is a ship without a rudder that generally drifts or uses sails only.

The word "ark" has been commonly used in modern times to describe genetic databases, in particular to ensure against exctinct species' being lost genetically. This is an interpretation obviously derived from Noah's Ark.

It is used less commonly to mean any ecological sanctuary or oasis that has special protections.

These latter usages are obviously more culturally neutral than the 1897 definition, so I believe we should move this article to "Noah's Ark" and include some of the usage above in a more generic article.

Blatant bias from Sunday Schools!

>Noah's Ark, a massive vessel Noah built at God's command to keep Noah, his family, and a core breeding stock of the world’s animals safe.

...and Eldorado is the city made of pure gold. Except that neither exist! It is stupid to pretend that the ark is real, a vessel large enough tohold specimen of all animal races of the earth would be impossibly large to engineer even today, and so the above quoted sentence as a statement is misleading. 195.70.32.136 10:41, 14 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I have some questions Bkonrad about the following reversions:

What is the order you reverted to?

Since "The Ark" is a 2007 episode title shouldn't "The Ark" be The Ark?

Since there are article entitled Trey Stokes, Stargate SG-1, BBC and Doctor Who shouldn't they be wikilinked? Mcljlm (talk) 15:05, 20 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

1) Alpha sort.
2) No, episode titles are not italicized.
3) Absolutely not. See MOS:DABONE

Several don't appear to be in alphabetical order. Mcljlm (talk) 19:33, 20 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
For instance? olderwiser 21:48, 20 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Looking at the list as a whole, most of them. Mcljlm (talk) 02:21, 21 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It looks to be mostly alphabetical to me. olderwiser 09:49, 21 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Since "mostly" indicates it's not totally in alphabetical order perhaps you should edit the order.
BTW, why is the 2007 episode listed as "The Ark" rather than The Ark? Mcljlm (talk) 10:57, 21 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I said "mostly" because some of the sorting is arbitrary based on Wikipedia naming conventions rather than the name of the subject. I don't understand your question regarding the 2007 episode. olderwiser 11:20, 21 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Do the conventions prevent the list being totally alphabetical?
Are the quote marks round The Ark because of the policy not to italicise titles? Mcljlm (talk) 12:12, 21 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Can you give an example of what you see as an issue with the sorting?
See Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Titles of works for guidelines on formatting of titles. olderwiser 12:35, 21 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
