Warwickshire

Although I myself come from Warwickshire it is clear from the description of the area that it isn't just in Warwickshire but in the West Midlands and probably in Worcestershire too. But I hate changing page names so I can't be bothered to change it! Cls14 (talk) 22:03, 3 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I agree and this is actually a problem in terms of understanding the cultural meaning of the term to those that used it originally. The article itself makes clear it it bigger than Warwickshire and bounded by the Roman Roads - hence it is Worcestershire, Shropshire, Coventry etc.

Pictures

Just stumbled across this page and realized it has two pictures of the same item with the same caption, just from slightly different angles. does anyone have any opinion on removing one of the two? @Vanis314: I agree that the two images of Coughton Cross are redundant, and support removing one of them. I suggest removing the closeup, as that only gives you the text on the plaque, while the wider shot gives you some idea of the actual cross. --Xover (talk) 10:22, 15 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Not in Shropshire

After living in Shropshire for 35+ years I have never come across any reference, or heard anyone say, that "Arden" or the "Forest of Arden" includes any part of the county. Wyre Forest does extend into southern Shropshire, but I've always believed that to be a completely separate forest (and never heard it referred to as part of "Arden" either). There are no "Arden" place names in Shropshire, never seen the name even on the oldest maps or in historical texts about the county. If the southwestern border was Droitwich and the northern one Watling Street as suggested in the article, it doesn't extend west of roughly where the modern M5 and M6 are, and doesn't reach within 35 miles of Shrewsbury. The only way I can see it having being referred to as partly in Shropshire would be to include the former detached parts around Halesowen and Warley, which were transferred to Worcestershire in the 1840s (and even they must have been close to the western edge of it). The modern county is completely outside it and always has been. Walshie79 (talk) 03:37, 21 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
