proposal for "Volume (publishing)"

[edit]

I think an article that combines the meaning of volume for both books and periodicals would be more interesting and also avoid too much duplicated material, as there would be some shared history. It would have a section on "volume" as originally Latin volumen (papyrus roll), what the first multi-volume works were in the modern sense (I'm guessing this is associated with the printing press and Renaissance publishing), and the use of the term for periodicals. In discussing periodicals, numerical designations would be explained, and the bibliographical aspect. Cynwolfe (talk) 15:37, 16 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I came to this section after reading Volume (computing) and wondering about the comparison to encyclopedia volume or journal volume. Then found that neither exists in Volume (disambiguation). If it did, then a comparison could be made with a disk volume and an encyclopedia volume. Gah4 (talk) 21:58, 29 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Is volume (bibliography) what you're looking for? Looks like it needs some expansion tho. Tayste (edits) 22:58, 29 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I suppose so, but the description isn't so good. Maybe (bibliographic) would be better, as I thought it was related to writing a bibliography. But I think (publishing) makes it more obvious what it means. Gah4 (talk) 23:42, 29 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
