Wikipedia:Requests for page protection

Page semi-protected
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
(Redirected from Wikipedia:RfPP)
Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here.

Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Current requests for increase in protection level

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Place requests for new or upgrading pending changes, semi-protection, full protection, move protection, create protection, template editor protection, or upload protection at the BOTTOM of this section. Check the archive of fulfilled and denied requests or, failing that, the page history if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Reason: Libel action by third parties on this page to discredit page IppolitoG (talk) 11:31, 3 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Note: User requesting the protection increase was nearly blocked for violating 3RR for removing a section of the article with no explanation. Only after a little digging did I realize that the section was lacking independent sources and should be removed. Assuming the IP does not attempt to re-add the section, I don't think any action is necessary here. —C.Fred (talk) 11:37, 3 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Declined per above. Daniel Case (talk) 20:42, 3 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Persistent vandalism by IP users: adding unsourced or poorly sourced content (probably copied from a Facebook "movie leaks" post) and blanking sourced sections. Prince of EreborThe Book of Mazarbul 11:37, 3 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Declined The IP hasn't edited since you began discussing on their talk page. Daniel Case (talk) 21:29, 3 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: IP vandalism of living person, sensitive issue. Subject is named in unfounded rumours circulating online. Unknown Temptation (talk) 11:49, 3 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: IP has made multiple reverts to add unreferenced material. Page is covered by pageants general sanctions. ☆ Bri (talk) 13:39, 3 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Semi-protection: Persistent sockpuppetry. Untamed1910 (talk) 13:49, 3 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for this, @Untamed1910. Pinging Alexeyevitch, Canterbury Tail, Knitsey, Pickersgill-Cunliffe, Frost, ScottishFinnishRadish, Mackensen: all of you were among those reverting that IP. They created 19 sections over the course of three hours with the same off-topic accusation against an editor. Next time, if you've got the tools, please semi the noticeboard. If you don't, please don't wait until it's already been reverted a dozen times before posting here. (RFPP requests are very easy in Twinkle, which you can enable in Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-gadgets if you haven't already.)
Also, thank you for keeping an eye on Wikipedia. Most of these were reverted within a minute or even less, and I really appreciate it. WhatamIdoing (talk) 16:39, 3 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I just don't know if protection works in this case. I can certainly ask for protection as soon as they start, but they just move on to another noticeboard. By the time they're all protected, the first round of protection runs out so they start back at the beginning (so to speak). Knitsey (talk) 16:44, 3 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Not done For good reasons that I can explain via email if necessary. Firefangledfeathers (talk / contribs) 16:46, 3 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent addition of unsourced or poorly sourced content – Continued addition of unsourced content being added into article. livelikemusic (TALK!) 15:17, 3 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Create protection: Repeatedly recreated. GPL93 (talk) 15:46, 3 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Creation protected indefinitely. Daniel Case (talk) 20:44, 3 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Persistent vandalism by unregistered accounts, some of which went unaddressed for several days or more. Almost immediately after previous protection expired in April 2024, vandalism began again (Special:Diff/1219835731). By my count, from January 2024 to today, 12 edits were disruptive/vandalism from unregistered accounts out of a total of 32, including a few bot edits and several edits to revert said vandalism. Minimal positive contributions from unregistered accounts over the last year — I only found one possible example: Special:Diff/1224703699. WhinyTheYoungerTalk 15:53, 3 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite extended confirmed protection: Per WP:CT/A-I. Pachu Kannan (talk) 16:15, 3 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. Not a clear enough nexus to the current conflict. Daniel Case (talk) 20:45, 3 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Semi-protection: Persistent vandalism. Filmssssssssssss (talk) 16:29, 3 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent addition of unsourced or poorly sourced content – One or multiple IP users have been repeatedly adding Linux and later Proton to the "platforms" in the infobox, neither of which are appropriate to include as there is no native Linux version of this game yet and Proton is an emulation tool and not a computing or gaming platform. The user or users have persisted (for about a month at this point) in adding this information in spite of being routinely reverted by experienced users who explained as much in their edit summaries. silviaASH (inquire within) 17:15, 3 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: High level of IP disruptive editing with biased agenda. Jingiby (talk) 18:02, 3 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    User that requested protection is blatantly violating MOS:OVERLINK, besides edit-warring. 62.74.24.247 (talk) 18:03, 3 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Consider the edit warring noticeboard – This is a case of possible edit-warring by one or two users. Daniel Case (talk) 20:46, 3 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: Disruptive editing from block evading IP. HorrorLover555 (talk) 18:48, 3 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

User(s) blocked: 92.40.212.173 (talk · contribs) blocked by Daniel Case. for two weeks. Daniel Case (talk) 20:41, 3 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Semi-protected for a period of 2 months, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Ymblanter (talk) 20:41, 3 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: A COI editor is edit warring over material previously declined to be included in the article following a COI edit request. Axad12 (talk) 18:49, 3 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: Continuing vandalism by IP's attempting to turn the lede into a press release Esolo5002 (talk) 19:48, 3 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 2 weeks, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Ymblanter (talk) 20:37, 3 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for reduction in protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin at their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

    • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page" which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
    • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
    • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
    • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Current requests for edits to a protected page

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

    • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
    • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
    • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
    • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
    • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.
