Wikipedia:Requests for page protection

Page semi-protected
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
(Redirected from Wikipedia:RPP)
Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here.

Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Current requests for increase in protection level

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Place requests for new or upgrading pending changes, semi-protection, full protection, move protection, create protection, template editor protection, or upload protection at the BOTTOM of this section. Check the archive of fulfilled and denied requests or, failing that, the page history if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

    Template:Current event

Indefinite extended confirmed protection: Match protection of redirect target. Not many transclusions at any one time, but tends to be translcuded in pages with millions of daily views. Suffusion of Yellow (talk) 07:12, 14 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The target is protected at the template editor level, not extended confirmed level. Ymblanter (talk) 09:04, 14 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Zzuuzz: You very recently ECP protected Template:Current event. Perhaps that should be template-editor protected to match the redirect target {{Current}}? I'm not sure of standard procedure but it seems desirable to me. Johnuniq (talk) 09:15, 14 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I based the level on several factors, including the current vandal and likely vandals, reverters and other editors, that it's a lesser used redirect, and indeed activity at the redirect target (whose protection level was also recently changed). I'm content, however I have absolutely no objections if someone else wants to adjust it. -- zzuuzz (talk) 09:22, 14 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    PBA season 49 draft

Reason: Multiple cases of IP vandalism MarcusAbacus (talk) 10:50, 14 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

DeclinedWarn the user appropriately then report them to AIV or ANI if they continue. Daniel Quinlan (talk) 17:25, 14 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Daniel LaRusso

    1 week semi-protection. Edit warring from anon IPs. --Office7724 (talk) 12:25, 14 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

User(s) blocked. If the edit warring resumes in the next day or two, please feel free to submit a new request straight away. Daniel Quinlan (talk) 17:12, 14 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Sobhita Dhulipala

Temporary pending changes: Persistent disruptive editing – IP range or proxy keeps removing sourced and self-identified content based on their own POV [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] [6] [7]. The article was protected before. Also, note similar POV removal by a now blocked sockpuppet (Fostera12) [8], so this may be a case of sockpuppetry, since IP work started this year, almost immediately after the sock was banned. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 12:35, 14 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

User(s) blocked. IP address range partially blocked. Daniel Quinlan (talk) 17:24, 14 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Talk:Tinga Tinga Tales

Reason: Persistent vandalism. TingaTingaTalesIsBack (talk) 13:54, 14 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Not done. Daniel Quinlan (talk) 17:07, 14 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Nixie tube

Reason: Semi-protect due to slow but continuing IP vandalism. IP's keep changing, but each one only seems to be tampering with this page. Hellbus (talk) 15:01, 14 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

DeclinedWarn the user appropriately then report them to AIV or ANI if they continue. Daniel Quinlan (talk) 16:41, 14 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Carlos Alcaraz

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Vandalism. Grand Slam final. Guaranagelado (talk) 15:26, 14 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – Likely collateral damage as one or several users who are making improvements would be affected by the requested protection. Daniel Quinlan (talk) 16:28, 14 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Asaram

Indefinite semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing – How many reports does this page need after which wiki is going to permanently protect this page? The subtle disruption in the form of whitewashing this convicted has been going on since ages, even I can remember filing a page protection request a few years ago. Atleast 4-5 RPP have already been filed for this page in last 4 years or something. This needs indefinite protection. zoglophie•talk• 16:41, 14 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – No changes to the current protection level are required at this point in time. The article was indefinitely semi-protected in May 2023. Daniel Quinlan (talk) 16:50, 14 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Template:Bubsy series

Reason: Ongoing edit war involves around if a fan game based on Bubsy should be listed. NatwonTSGTALK 16:46, 14 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Ryan Zinke

Reason: IP additions of contentious material. Some IPs have repeatedly added nearly the same info that Mr Zinke had some connection to some fraudsters: 5 April 2021, 24 May 2024, 6 July 2024. 13 July 2024. 14 July 2024. It's on the talk page too. Reverting just leads to re-addition. Is long-term semi-protection possible? Peter Gulutzan (talk) 18:46, 14 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for reduction in protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin at their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

    • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page" which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
    • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
    • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
    • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

    Talk:Attempted_assassination_of_Donald_Trump

Reason: If I'm reading the logs correctly, this protection carried over from a page of the same name created in 2020. That page was protected for violations of BLP. There doesn't seem to be any reason for the current incarnation of the page to be protected. 2403:6200:8810:F964:B067:4711:4774:5642 (talk) 09:21, 14 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for edits to a protected page

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

    • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
    • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
    • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
    • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
    • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.
