KNXV-TV studios in Phoenix

KNXV-TV (channel 15) is a television station affiliated with the ABC network in Phoenix, Arizona, United States, and owned by the E. W. Scripps Company. The station launched on September 9, 1979, as an independent station with evening pay subscription television service from ON TV. It was acquired by Scripps in 1985 and served as Phoenix's first affiliate of the then-new Fox network in 1986, becoming one of its strongest affiliates nationally. A multi-market affiliation realignment caused the station to switch from Fox to ABC between 1994 and 1995, in spite of the latter network's reluctance, as part of a deal between ABC and Scripps. During this time, KNXV-TV launched local newscasts, which met with early success before a downturn in the late 1990s and early 2000s; the news department has since recovered, winning a total of three George Foster Peabody Awards. In 2019, Scripps acquired a second Phoenix station, KASW. (Full article...)

Marilyn Monroe

Marilyn Monroe (1926–1962) was an American model and actress. One of the most popular sex symbols of the 1950s, she played stereotypically "dumb blonde" characters that were emblematic of the era's attitudes towards sexuality. After beginning her career as a pin-up model, she had two short-lived film contracts before being signed by 20th Century-Fox in 1951. The next year, scandalous nude photographs of her were featured in a popular calendar. She became one of the most bankable Hollywood stars with starring roles in comedies such as Gentlemen Prefer Blondes (1953), How to Marry a Millionaire (1953), and The Seven Year Itch (1955). Disappointed in being typecast and underpaid, Monroe formed her own production company in 1955 and successfully fought for a better contract with Fox. She received critical acclaim for her performances in Bus Stop (1956) and Some Like It Hot (1959), winning a Golden Globe for Best Actress for the latter. Her last completed film was the drama The Misfits (1961). Troubled by mental health and addiction problems, Monroe died of a barbiturate overdose in 1962. She continues to be considered a popular culture icon. This photograph of Monroe was taken on September 9, 1954, while she was filming The Seven Year Itch on the streets of New York in 1954. Monroe is wearing the famous white dress worn in the "skirt scene," in which air from a subway grate blows up her skirt.

The Grace Hopper Myth

[edit]

When Grace Hopper recorded the death of that famous moth, she did not, as legend has it, invent the term "computer bug". The word "bug" was already common slang for electronic glitches, especially in radar sets. Hopper was simply making a joke.

It was a major shuffle that turned the country's history for 55 years and the event that brought the Bulgarian Communist Party in government, making Bulgaria part of the post-WWII Eastern bloc for the entirety of the Cold War. Also, I think my article is pretty decent in explaining the coup. As a whole, I do believe the event was at least as notable as some revolt of smelly prisoners-gone-bad, a political assassination or the usual car bomb assault, even probably as much as the admission of Cali or the death of a Scottish king. If I get no objections, I'll just be bold and add it in a few hours :) TodorBozhinov 16:39, 8 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
