Malohont

[edit]

Are you sure the position of Malohont between Tekov and Rimavska Sobota is correct? I think Tekov is pretty far from Rimavska Sobota. Is Malohont the western part of Gemer-Malohont? Markussep 14:55, 10 Sep 2004 (UTC)

I am not at the "sources" now, so you have to wait till tomorrow or so for an answer. But, yes Malohont is the westernmost part of Gemer. Juro 15:35, 10 Sep 2004 (UTC)

Names

[edit]

Please think before editing names. I fully understand that this is multiethnical region with long hungarian tradition, and that hungarian names are often used, still. But there should be a system. It is only a mess, if there is name of one village in Slovkaia in hungarian, and then under it name of other one in slovak. And even more, if there is same name in both forms in the same article. Sadly, this is common in many articles. It looks bad and it is confusing. And let's not foget, that english sites are primarily for people from all of the world, and that it should be understandable for people who may not know that Roznyó and Rožňava is the same place. I think that it is without a doubt, that usage of modern, official names would be most clear. Using both forms all the time would probably not look good, that why I propose using official historical names in paragraphs regarding history and modern names in paragraphs regarding the present.

After all, I think slovak name of the article would be more appropiate, as it is region within Slovakia, with it's name still commonly used within Slovakia, unlike in Hungary, and that it is promoted internationally in slovak form. There is other article about historical county, which does not longer exist, where it is no problem, as it had its official name in hungarian, but this is article about region which still exists, and which is still promoted. --Lukáč Peter (talk) 19:01, 9 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
I always think, don't worry. The system is the the context is historical, we use what is then, what is modern, then that. If we match names Rozsnyó next to Rožňava, either in brackets of x (present-day y) or similar, it is clear as standard. Some historical entities does not have a modern name (cannot have), since it is non-existent anymore. Of couse we may use in historical context just historical names and by modern just modern, but by the earlier by courtesy we may put modern names in brackets (if I missed somewhere, sorry, I had a transient edit lost error).
The article is about the former administrative county of Hungary (the scope is clear), and only an informal region shared between today's Slovakia and Hungary, so your proposal stand only in the modern era, btw. still commonly used by Hungarians. I don't do it else as other articles, even if some are still in a sloppy, nonimproved form.(KIENGIR (talk) 17:34, 10 February 2021 (UTC))[reply]
I moved the article title to Gömör County, as the article itself is about the former administrative unit in the Kingdom of Hungary. Per standardization, similarily to Borsod County, Csanád County, Pozsony County etc. --Norden1990 (talk) 20:09, 10 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Sure.(KIENGIR (talk) 09:11, 11 February 2021 (UTC))[reply]
I don't think moving this article was appropriate. Although it does not have official status anymore, except as a Slovak touristic region, it still exist, people still use it's name and refer to it in common language and in geography. It did not ceased existing, it just lost it's official status. There is already an article about former Gemer county (Gömör és Kishont County), so now it's a duplicate of existing article, and this article was wrtitten, and I edited it as originally as an article about existing region, with it's current economy, modern borders, touristic potential, etc, not only about history. I suggest reverting this change and making it article about georgaphical region again. Lukáč Peter (talk) 10:48, 15 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Believe it was right, since Gömör és Kishont County was another county, this one has been a predecessor, and we have as well several articles about such counties, regardless later they were merged to another ones. As proposed below, a new article could be about the present turistic region.(KIENGIR (talk) 19:32, 16 March 2021 (UTC))[reply]
I see, it's same in Slovak Wiki, that there are two articles, one just about former Gemer County, and one about merged Gemer-Malohont/Gomor-Kishont County. But in that case most of the text in this article would be not relevant, as it's talking also about the current situation, and about history before merging with Malohont/Kishont, only small proportion of it talks about merged region. Wouldn't it be then easier creating new article only about merged Gomor-Kishont County? --Lukáč Peter (talk) 11:58, 18 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
No, because it already exists: Gömör és Kishont County.(KIENGIR (talk) 14:43, 20 March 2021 (UTC))[reply]

Split

[edit]

I think, we need to split this article. 1, a separate article on the former administrative unit under the title Gömör County and 2, the current informal traditional region under the title Gemer. --Norden1990 (talk) 20:19, 10 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Support, the same way as Liptó County and Liptov.(KIENGIR (talk) 09:12, 11 February 2021 (UTC))[reply]
I agree. There is already an article about former county. This one was before article about region as such, before they edited it, so now there are two articles about former county, although this was written as an article about geographical region. Lukáč Peter (talk) 10:51, 15 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
As outlined above, we don't have two articles about the former county, since the other one is from only 1802, which is not identical but a successor-merger country.(KIENGIR (talk) 19:33, 16 March 2021 (UTC))[reply]
