Hello!

The name's Jeremy ... I'm from Flint, Michigan, USA.

I take my username, JubalHarshaw, from Jubal Harshaw, a major character in Robert A. Heinlein's Stranger in a Strange Land.

My contributions

[edit]

I was quite active in the Wikification project, but I also like to roll the dice, hitting random articles to see if I stumble on something interesting, or in need of improvement. I also tend to be fascinated by some of the craziness that goes on in talk pages, though I deplore personal attacks and unnecessary conflict. I've also been speaking up on more AfD pages lately ... it fosters a sense of community ... but I'm not trying to waste too much time on it, not with 7000+ pages needing wikification. Fighting vandalism is also starting to become a hobby.

Lately I have been rather stressed by life and work and editing much less.

Things to remember

[edit]

0. WP:NPOV,WP:NOR,WP:V,WP:EP,WP:IAR

(Thanks to Mangojuice, I stole the next four right from his user page.)

1. Coverage on Wikipedia is much better than its quality. I should strive to improve the quality of wikipedia, it's a job not enough people are doing.
2. Wikipedia covers lots of articles on unencyclopedic crap. I will accept this and not waste my time fighting it.
3. Focusing too much on deletion is a bad but tempting thing.
4. Do your real work, don't waste all your time here. I mean it.

5. Some people seem very proprietary and over-protective about articles they contribute to, and sometimes lash out against others who edit said articles. I resolve to not take this personally.
6. I will take the time to give thanks, kudos, recognition, and appreciation when I find users doing good work. It's something that is not done enough.
7. Wikification is more than just adding wikilinks. If someone cares enough to create a relevant article, a wikilink will be created that is more than just a red link. Wikification is more than links; it is sections, list formatting, infoboxes, uncat tags, sources tags ... anything that can be done to improve the article. You don't agree that it's completely wikified? Re-add the wikify tag and I or another wikifier will run through it again.
8. If you have an issue with my edits, cite me examples. Giving examples to other people doesn't really help me improve. Sure, I'll probably find their talk page, but why not just be upfront with me?

Compulsive wikification

[edit]

Is it a Bad Thing to be wikifying articles you know are highly unlikely to survive an AfD, just because they have a wikify tag? =) I've always been told that "you can't polish a turd." My urge to wikify has gotten out of hand. Even my talk page is wikified. Help!
