Admin

[edit]

I am a Wikipedia:administrator since July 5, 2004. I first contributed to Wikipedia in April of 2001 (oldest edits lost in early software upgrades). My first edit with my username appears to be on April 26. I have been active on a number of online projects - active and passive (SETI@Home, Distributed Proofreaders, Mars crater labeling, Stardust@Home, Folding@Home on the Wikipedia team: Team page, etc.)

Misspelling of "sockpuppet". That's a red flag, but their single edit (as of now) looks fine. jlwoodwa (talk) 06:45, 31 August 2024 (UTC)
I think it's a clever username, actually. It reminds me of the fictional "Fudpucker World Airlines" from the 1980s, for which one still occasionally sees merchandise available on eBay. You don't want to switch the F and the P. ~Anachronist (talk) 18:10, 31 August 2024 (UTC)
Looks like it inspired a real-world restaurant. Fudpucker's is dedicated to our favorite "F" words: Food, Fun and Family. jlwoodwa (talk) 18:17, 31 August 2024 (UTC)

Requests for page protection

Current requests for increase in protection level

[edit]
Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Place requests for new or upgrading pending changes, semi-protection, full protection, move protection, create protection, template editor protection, or upload protection at the BOTTOM of this section. Check the archive of fulfilled and denied requests or, failing that, the page history if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Temporary full protection: Repeatedly recreated by well-meaning users despite AfD consensus for it to be a redirect until the election. Full protection could be a good way to avoid people wasting time on recreating the article before a consensus is established for notability. Chaotic Enby (talk · contribs) 14:29, 1 September 2024 (UTC)

Declined A good thought, but doesn't meet the very high bar for imposing full protection. GoodnightmushTalk 18:28, 1 September 2024 (UTC)

Reason: Edit war. JacktheBrown (talk) 16:51, 1 September 2024 (UTC)

Declined I don't see any evidence of an edit war here. GoodnightmushTalk 18:01, 1 September 2024 (UTC)
There's an obvious edit war going on. what do you mean there is nothing? Zlad! (talk) 21:09, 1 September 2024 (UTC)

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent addition of unsourced or poorly sourced content. C F A 💬 19:09, 1 September 2024 (UTC)

Declined for now. There's some engagement on the talk page now, so hoping this won't require admin intervention. If it does, probably can start with a block, not protection. GoodnightmushTalk 19:33, 1 September 2024 (UTC)

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing. GSK (talkedits) 20:29, 1 September 2024 (UTC)

Semi-protected for a period of 1 week, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Ymblanter (talk) 20:45, 1 September 2024 (UTC)
  • Automated comment: One or more pages in this request appear to already be protected. Please confirm.—cyberbot ITalk to my owner:Online 20:49, 1 September 2024 (UTC)

Reason: Incredibly high level of vandalism, misinformation, or just bad edits. Not a week goes by without someone either adding "pro-Russian" in the infobox, removing Euroscepticism and replacing it with pro-Europeanism, or vandalizing the article by calling the party a "Russian Dream" or its founder "Borys Ivanishvili". I think this easily warrants extended confirmed protection as it is a very contentious article about a very controversial party and protection will save it from being stuck for hours with vandalism until someone notices and reverts. Zlad! (talk) 20:44, 1 September 2024 (UTC)

Temporary extended confirmed protection: BLP policy violations – Page is being vandalized/inflammatory content added again by IPs. Paris1127 (talk) 20:45, 1 September 2024 (UTC)

Temporary pending changes: BLP policy violations – IPs making unhelpful edits to the page of a public figure. Pending would allow helpful edits through while restricting gossip/vandalism. Paris1127 (talk) 20:49, 1 September 2024 (UTC)

Extended confirmed protection: Arbitration enforcement – Per WP:ARBPIA. 🛧Midori No Sora♪🛪 ( ☁=☁=✈) 20:59, 1 September 2024 (UTC)

Current requests for reduction in protection level

[edit]
Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin at their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

  • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page" which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
  • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
  • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
  • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected please use the section below.
Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Current requests for edits to a protected page

[edit]
Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

  • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
  • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
  • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
  • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
  • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.

Requests for autopatrolled

Autopatrolled

[edit]

Been on Wikipedia for a few years now. Mainly created BLPs. Requesting for autopatrolled rights to reduce the backlog of new page patrollers. I declare that I've understood verifiability, notability and copyrights. SerChevalerie (talk) 21:21, 25 August 2024 (UTC)

On hold. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 23:46, 25 August 2024 (UTC)
Okay, the user's talk page history is back. This can now be evaluated normally. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 08:12, 27 August 2024 (UTC)

I have been an editor since 2020, but only really started ramping up my edits in February of this year. I have made 320+ pages (at least 4 of them are from redirects), 166+ of which have been in the last 6 days (as of August 29). Another user (Ryan shell) suggested that I should apply. The only major issue that my articles have had in the past was me using AI, which I have acknowledged was wrong and promised not to do it again to an administrator, who worked with me on how to properly find info for articles without using AI. Most of my articles are stubs, and I feel like they can clog up the New Pages Feed a bit. Since I know this will be brought up, of the 4 pages I have started that have been deleted, one was an April Fools joke page that I didn't realize wasn't allowed, one was from an AfD, and the other two are from the above AI issue. Experienced and frequent editor. Knowledgeable in article creation and assessment. Ktkvtsh (talk) 23:10, 27 August 2024 (UTC)

@Ktkvtsh: Would you care to explain why you think your creation Mario Acampa was recently deleted at AfD? Additionally, could you explain how Boler's Inn passes the notability guideline for buildings? None of the three sources cited seem to have the significant coverage required to meet the guideline's standard. TechnoSquirrel69 (sigh) 05:02, 30 August 2024 (UTC)
I created Mario Acampa as a translation from Italian when I first started editing. I was not fully aware of all standards and guidelines at that time.
For Boler's Inn, I believe that it qualified due to it's listing on the National Register of Historic Places. Ktkvtsh (talk) 14:05, 30 August 2024 (UTC)
Yes. It's generally accepted that a property on the NHRP is thoroughly documented, or it wouldn't have been listed in the first place. The nomination form lists 14 sources in its Bibliography section. --SarekOfVulcan (talk) 14:18, 30 August 2024 (UTC)

I am familiar with WP policies, and am willing to learn when I need to improve. I am looking to to learn more and help with anyplace I can. Demt1298 (talk) 17:23, 30 August 2024 (UTC)

Hello! I would like to participate in the September 2024 Backlog Drive. I registered myself there but it appears that I have to be a Page reviewer in order to participate. Can you please grant me this right for not a limited time? I have had it a while ago for a limited time. You can also review the articles that I've created. Thank you in advance for considering this request! Typical Albanian (talk) 14:58, 31 August 2024 (UTC)

Thank you for volunteering @Typical Albanian, but I'm afraid I'm not seeing enough experience with the deletion process to feel comfortable granting a trial at this point in time. I encourage you to spend some time at WP:AFD and make policy based votes to show that you're comfortable evaluating notability. Alternatively, you can apply to help out at Wikipedia:WikiProject Articles for creation.  Not done. Hey man im josh (talk) 19:05, 31 August 2024 (UTC)

I would like to help reduce the backlog of new pages. In my time of editing I have created and deleted several articles, making me familiar with the guidelines of notability. Particularly, I could help with STEM articles, as well as general-knowledge. Niashervin (talk) 15:59, 31 August 2024 (UTC)

Hello there. I hope to help in the the September New Pages Patrol. I have been on Wikipedia since 2010 and am well acquainted with the Wiki guidelines, though I know I am continuing to learn how to be a better contributor. I have created 43 live main articles and have made 3,989 total contributions across Wikimedia. I enjoy enforcing WP:NOTABILITY and WP:NPOV among others, and assisting Wikipedia's coverage of a variety of topics. I am particularly interested in the topics of local cultural food, small towns, and American biographies. I hope I may assist in the New Page Patrol and appreciate the opportunity to help. Evedawn99 (talk) 20:29, 31 August 2024 (UTC)

I've created hundreds of articles and I think I have a pretty good idea about what a good article is or is not. I can't promise to spend a lot of time reviewing new articles but I can promise to help when I have time. I haven't spent much time with afd, but it's not hard to figure out. Masterhatch (talk) 05:42, 1 September 2024 (UTC) After some thought, I've realised at this point in time, I don't have the time to commit. I'm removing my request and at a future point, when I know I'll be able to commit, I'll reapply. Thank you! Masterhatch (talk) 13:12, 1 September 2024 (UTC)

Reason for requesting new page reviewer rights Jattlife121 (talk) 13:57, 1 September 2024 (UTC)

Hi, requesting permission as I'd like to help with the September 2024 New Page Patrol Backlog Drive, thank you. Eucalyptusmint (talk) 14:57, 1 September 2024 (UTC)

I'm interested in participating in the September reviewing backlog drive. This would be my first time reviewing new pages, but I have solid experience with article creation/improvement and strong familiarity with notability guidelines (48 articles created, 18 GAs and one FA). Hoping to pick up new skills and help reduce the backlog! Alanna the Brave (talk) 15:35, 1 September 2024 (UTC)

I was a page reviewer in the past and reviewed many pages. I lost the permission when I was banned for a reason unrelated to my permissions as a page reviewer. Now that I am unbanned, I would like to request that the permission be granted back so I can continue to review pages. Thanks! EytanMelech (talk) 16:59, 1 September 2024 (UTC)

Unblocked today after being blocked by the arb committee since January 20. I see that you had a successful appeal, but that doesn't necessarily mean there wasn't merit to your block. @HJ Mitchell, would you care to weigh in at all? If the block was valid I'm inclined to deny this request. Hey man im josh (talk) 17:44, 1 September 2024 (UTC)
@Hey man im josh the siteban was for proxying for a banned editor and the appeal was granted subject to a topic ban from the Arab-Israeli conflict. For what it's worth, I'm not aware of any issues outside that topic area. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 18:23, 1 September 2024 (UTC)
Not done. It's a bit soon after your arbcom unblock. Please take some time to build some activity and trust first. Also your AFD match rate is a bit low. –Novem Linguae (talk) 17:48, 1 September 2024 (UTC)

Requests for page mover

Page mover

[edit]

I want to help with the renaming of various LGBTQ child pages as a result follow-up to the main article LGBTQ now being LGBTQ as a result of the concluded Talk:LGBTQ#Requested move 14 August 2024 discussion that I initiated. Most of the child pages all have existing redirects that need to be page swapped and many are not just 1-iteration, so need to WP:ROUNDROBIN swapped, for which Page Mover permissions are required. I am aware of the policies around page moving and will respect the permissions as such. Raladic (talk) 16:43, 27 August 2024 (UTC)

Raladic, what's the scale/scope of the pages needing moved? Best guess is okay, I don't necessarily need a specific number (my thought process here is wondering if WP:RM/TR might be a better route). (please do not ping on reply) Primefac (talk) 12:49, 28 August 2024 (UTC)
Many, basically for many years all sub-pages that have the article title "LGBT" have followed the principle of "when the time comes that the main article 'LGBT' gets rename, then we'll rename the others" - that time has come now, so basically all sorts of other pages (and categories) that currently have LGBT in the title should be updated to LGBTQ now per WP:COMMONNAME, so basically very many pages under Category:LGBT that have LGBT in the name, including those categories as well.
Also likely the WikiProject LGBT itself. If there is some automated way to achieve that in bulk, then that of course would also be fine if that is what you were trying to get at with the Technical Request link. Raladic (talk) 14:31, 28 August 2024 (UTC)
Naively, there are more than 1,000 pages when searching for articles with titles containing "LGBT". Even if it is just 10% of these being processed, RM/TR would be burdened with an onslaught of requests. – robertsky (talk) 17:47, 28 August 2024 (UTC)
Done for two months to clear out this single task. Primefac (talk) 15:06, 30 August 2024 (UTC)
Requests for pending changes reviewer

Pending changes reviewer

[edit]

I have made several edits and would like to review pending changes/edits. The right would help me in making Wikipedia better. Thanks. Daniel Plumber (talk) 00:55, 30 August 2024 (UTC)

Not done for the same reason your recent request for rollback was declined. -Fastily 06:58, 30 August 2024 (UTC)
I have been around Wikipedia for a long time. Many years. I already have rollback permissions, so Pending changes reviewer permissions seems like the next step. Thanks! Urbanracer34 (talk) 16:39, 1 September 2024 (UTC)

I wish to utilize Humble's anti-vandalism tool to revert recent changes. Kartano (talk) 20:49, 30 August 2024 (UTC)

Not done I noticed you make a handful of edits, and then drop off for months/years at a time. While I appreciate your enthusiasm, I'd like to see you spend at least a month consistently patrolling RecentChanges (Twinkle & Ultraviolet can help with that) before reapplying. Also, please ensure that you are always warning editors when you revert their edits. Thanks, Fastily 21:28, 30 August 2024 (UTC)

"Do you want to take a survey?"

    [edit]

On Feb. 12, 2005, I did a random pages survey. Out of 100 random pages, only 1 was a U.S. town. That's progress. Three towns in the UK, 1 in Spain and 1 in Portugal also turned up. Overall biographies were the largest category at 22%, followed by geography with 15% total. Then Lists at 7%, Disambiguation pages at 6%.

On Feb. 24, 2006, I repeated the 100 random page survey, this time getting 5 U.S. towns. Overall, geography had 26%, biography 21%, fiction 9%, music 4%, colleges 4%, lists 3% and disambigs 4%. Clearly geography and biography are our largest areas. Music, science and business scored less than I expected. Non-individual History was hardly discernable.

Even by Feb. 2005, 100 out of almost 500,000 was not statistically significant but was as much as I had patience for.

Early Anon work, no need to bug the developers

    [edit]

Up to Dec 16, 2003, all the edits at these anonymous id's were mine (59 edits):

More recently 1,250 or so edits on 75.41.110.200 are apparently all mine. Apparently my new ID is 75.41.109.190. There are undoubtedly many others as the earliest history of many articles was not preserved by the software.
