Outside US

[edit]

On 8th April did anything happen anywhere else in the world apart from the USA? It would appear from this listing that not a lot did.

If you know of anything that can be included here, please do so. RickK 23:51, 17 Apr 2004 (UTC)

Any objections to conjecture?

[edit]

I just added the proposed April 8, 2005 wedding of Prince Charles to Camilla Parker Bowles. Any problems as it has not yet occurred and may not occur? ^demon

  • Let's not list future events. Save it for after it happens. :) Kingturtle 00:53, 24 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Grace Park the actress on Battlestar Galactica was born the same day (April 8, 1980) as Katee Sackhoff. This is from an interview with Katee Sackhoff on SciFi Talk. There is another Grace Park (the golfer) born March 6, 1979 and many web sites confuse the two (obviously doing a quick Google).

Odd edit

[edit]

can someone tell me whats this (1991- a legend is born) —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 80.80.161.133 (talkcontribs).

See Wikipedia:Vandalism. It's been reverted. -- Rick Block (talk) 15:14, 8 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hank Aaron breaks Babe Ruth's record in 1974

[edit]

This event has been added and deleted several times. My reading of WP:DOY (not that it's actually official, but anyway) is that only current sports records belong. Other comments on this? -- Rick Block (talk) 02:58, 28 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'd say that any sporting record which is historically significant--regardless of whether its been broken since--is eligible for inclusion. --CalendarWatcher (talk) 03:37, 28 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Have you expressed this opinion at WT:DOY? I think I agree that historically significant sports records should likely be included (e.g. first 4-minute mile, but this would be included under WP:DOY#Human accomplishments/social milestones), but first to break a long-standing record seems dubious. Do we include Ralph Boston's 1960 long jump breaking Jesse Owens's record from 1935? (no) or Mike Powell's current record breaking a long standing record set by Bob Beamon (no). I think the event of "breaking a long standing sports record" is worth considering (where "long standing" probably should be defined as greater than, e.g., 10 years), but we don't have a currently "blessed" guideline about this which mean we don't have any avenue to resolve this other than this talk page. Getting back to Aaron's accomplishment, I"m OK with including it if the general criteria includes "first to break a long-standing (greater than nn years) sports record". -- Rick Block (talk) 04:20, 28 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Broken records should not be listed. There is too much gray area on historical significance in the realm of sports records. -- Mufka (u) (t) (c) 14:45, 28 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Civil Rights Act

[edit]

this page says that on this day, april 8, the civil rights act of 1960 passed ([1]) -- yet on that page, there's no mention of april 8. can someone confirm and fix one of those two pages. thanks.--Pnoeric (talk) 20:29, 8 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

removed as unsupported. -- Mufka (u) (t) (c) 20:33, 8 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Charles W. Woodworth

[edit]

The Charles W. Woodworth page indicates his date of birth is April 28. Not sure of his actual date of birth. — Preceding unsigned comment added by ChancellorBen (talkcontribs) 13:47, 8 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Rex Manning Day

[edit]

How can we bring up April 8 and not mention that it's also Rex Manning Day? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 206.255.12.27 (talk) 18:21, 27 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Who the HELL is Rex Manning? Cuddy2977 (talk) 12:32, 21 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Empire Records --The_stuart (talk) 00:07, 9 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I vote to remove it. In my opinion, nobody outside a tiny US community has even heard of it.Annasdottir (talk) 12:03, 21 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I have removed it; first, it is from a movie, so more or less fictional, and secondly, it is not of global importance. Finally, there is no separate article for this "day". Lectonar (talk) 12:36, 21 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

John Foxe

[edit]

The entry for John Foxe's death (1587) is incorrect. It's April 18 (and already on the April 18 date page).

No Important Deaths from 2016 on????

[edit]

It's amazing that absolutely no one of even moderate importance died on April 8 in the years 2016, 17, 18, 19 or 20. 5 year streak? Or laziness/no one really gives a fuck about editing this day anymore?

2024 Eclipse
