We need a link for the human rights abuses that are supposed to be reported here in Wikipedia. EddEdmondson 13:57, 4 Jul 2004 (UTC)

I just re-wrote the part that explains the situation regarding the former ELAS refugees in FYROM, the ones who are refused entry to Greece. However, this issue is not exclusive to Florina and ought to be moved elsewhere.

I got a tip from a friend regarding the status of the ELAS refugees problem. These people may freely cross the border and go anywhere in Greece, but having lost their Greek citizenship since the Civil War, and due to Greece's strict policy on immigration, they are not allowed to reestablish.

Also, I have just looked at the article's history and saw a few interesting things. The article was a stub before inserting the information regarding the Macedonian conflict. This particular piece of info is part of a greater problem and it's not exclusive to this town.

Florina as a town and a prefecture has a lot to display apart from its part in the Macedonian conflict. Its history, its culture, its social and economical life are missing from this article, and that's why it was called a stub. Overloading it with info that should be somewhere else does not remove it from the stub category. Therefore, I reinsert the stub notation.

The ELAS refugees section has been moved to the Rainbow Party article. Reasons explained above.

Does not say that Greece-related articles get to live in a bubble of their own reality. It says, with certain specific exceptions, themselves disputed:

The term Republic of Macedonia, being the self-identifying name, is the established term that Wikipedia generally uses to refer to the country, as determined by the naming conflict guidelines. The country-level article is at Republic of Macedonia and all sub-level articles also use Republic of Macedonia, as do the related templates. This name should be used in all articles other than the exceptions set out below.

Use of the term "former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia" is deprecated, except when representing the expressed opinion of some organization; not in Wikipedia's voice. Septentrionalis PMAnderson 19:51, 18 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Is Florina Prefecture not an organization?--NetProfit 20:02, 18 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
No. If it were, an express decision on English usage would have to be documented; but it is not, in the sense intended. Do you really see no difference between the UN, the EU, the Eurovision Song Contest, of which Greece and the Republic are member states, and Florina prefecture? Septentrionalis PMAnderson 20:24, 18 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Florina Prefecture is a government body, I have nothing else to add.--NetProfit 21:06, 18 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Also, is there some special reason for which you are spelling "region" with a capital "R"? It's not an official name.--NetProfit 21:09, 18 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
To make the differentiation clear. MosMac speaks, slightly archaicly, of the Province of Macedonia, as distinct from the Republic; so here. The small r'd region of Macedonia is ambiguous with the historic region, as used at least since 1886. See Macedonia (terminology). Septentrionalis PMAnderson 21:33, 18 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

2 editors and FYROM

[edit]

I think the 2 of you need to use edit summaries, or better yet, talk this out.

FYROM is not a widely known abbreviation. Please spell it out, or linky it, or something.
