Confirmed pronunciation with UCSB classics dept. Latin has a long i, so accent on penult. Not sure which Greek vowel or diphthong this corresponds to. (If iota, the vowel length would not be apparent.) kwami 04:20, 2005 May 4 (UTC)

Any idea which syllable takes primary stress and which takes secondary stress? The asteroid pronunciation key mistakenly states the distribution of primary and secondary stress is predictable in English, which of course it isn't. In principle, either /ˈmɛgəˌklaɪti/ or /ˌmɛgəˈklaɪti/ is possible. --Angr/tɔk mi 1 July 2005 10:11 (UTC)
Thanks for leaving in the ad-hoc pronunciations, Angr. They're easier for a lot of people (native speakers, anyway—Usonians especially have no idea what the IPA is), and unify the dialects better than standard usage of the IPA does.
As for your claim that primary and secondary stress are phonemic in English, can you give me an example? But that probably belongs in the Asteroid pronunciation key talk page. kwami 2005 July 1 20:31 (UTC)
