A primer is also a reading book aimed at learners of a language, especially young children. Do we need something on that, or can we put a link to a more general topic? -- Tarquin 17:00 Jan 10, 2003 (UTC)

When I linked to it from another page, I added a brief stub about the textbook, that mentions the New England Primer. I also added another brief stub about "primer" as a kind of paint. Smerdis of Tlön 02:49, 8 May 2004 (UTC)[reply]

Suggested action impacting disambiguation

[edit]

I would suggest that this article be moved to Primer (molecular biology) and that Primer (disambiguation) be moved to Primer. This would be in accordance with WP:DAB, section 2, item 2:

"Equal" disambiguation: all articles are moved to distinct names, and the "Mercury" page becomes a disambiguation page — a simple list (or sentence) that points to those specific articles, perhaps explaining the differences among them.

I think that item 3 (Primary topic) does not apply in the case of the current use of Primer.

P.S. this comment came out of my looking for primer in the paint sense; I am a molecular biologist by training so I'm all for high profile for science and molbio, I just don't think the current usage is in the interests of best practice in navigation.
