Hello and welcome to Wikipedia!

Here are some tips to help you get started:

Good luck!
Jrdioko

P.S. One last helpful hint. To sign your posts like I did above (on talk pages, for example) use the '~' symbol. To insert just your name, type ~~~ (3 tildes), or, to insert your name and timestamp, use ~~~~ (4 tildes).

I have deleted the article Warlock.jpg that you created: there was no need to create this article. If you need to find the image again it can be found at Image:Warlock.jpg. -- Graham  :) | Talk 00:26, 1 Jun 2004 (UTC)

Image description page

[edit]

Hi there, thanks for your image contributions. Could you please make sure to include the appropriate image copyright tags on the images you upload? I've modified a few for you, but it would be great if you could add this information to the rest that you uploaded.

See, for example, Image:Hann_logo_7.jpg for a good image description. Oh, and welcome to Wikipedia!

Image copyrights

[edit]

Hi. I saw the images you added to Michaelangelo (Ninja Turtle) et al, and I wasn't sure about the copyright status. Can you clarify where you got them? You should probably add that info on the image page (Image:Michael1.jpg). Best of luck, Meelar 01:13, 11 Jun 2004 (UTC)

Hi-- Welcome to Wikipedia. It is great that you are enthusiastic about contributing material. However, it appears that you may have not seen or read the Wikipedia:Image use policy page. Unfortunately, you can't just grab a good picture from a web site and stick it here; it really does need to have permission. Also, when you do find pictures that can be legitimately used, you need to give them a proper descriptive file name. For example, "casthp.jpg" gives no indication that it shows the cast of Max Headroom. And you need to document the source where you got them and their copyright status. I hope this doesn't sound too discouraging, but I'm sure you'll be up to speed in no time. --Amillar 22:45, 11 Jun 2004 (UTC)

Hi, Donar, I liked the picture you uploaded of Uncle Sam defending the Free World from a comic book villain. I doubt the use of the picture will harm comic book sales, so I expect we can probably use it as fair use, but we must attribute the source. Do you know which comic book (title, number, date, publisher, author/artists) came up with that frame? Who's the villain? All that would be good information to include on the image description page. We should definitely recognize the efforts of those whose picture we're borrowing. -- ke4roh 23:27, Jul 5, 2004 (UTC) (IANAL)

Image names and tags

[edit]

It would appear WP needs to increase the font size on the upload page or make it blinking since you can't seem to be bothered with reading them.

Regarding Image:240x320.jpeg:

  • You don't have a copyright tag
  • You didn't link to the relevant article Gene Roddenberry
  • You didn't give it a descriptive filename (240x320 isn't the kind of detail being asked for)

and as such, I've put it up for deletion (WP:IFD) at WP:IFD#March_2.

Although you haven't contributed to wikipedia in over 2 months, please read the text on the upload page before uploading another image. Thanks! Cburnett 21:20, 2 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Image:Abom-l.jpg has been listed for deletion

[edit]
An image or media file you uploaded, Image:Abom-l.jpg, has been listed at Wikipedia:Images and media for deletion. Please look there to see why this is (you may have to search for the title of the image to find its entry), if you are interested in it not being deleted. Thank you.

I have added a "{{prod}}" template to the article Atomic Mouse, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but I don't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and I've explained why in the deletion notice (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia, or, if you disagree with the notice, discuss the issues at its talk page. Removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, but the article may still be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached, or if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria. Non-free use disputed for Image:Yogi.jpg

[edit]
Warning sign This file may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Yogi.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read carefully the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content and then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. ShakespeareFan00 12:01, 23 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Hann logo 7.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Hann logo 7.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Shell babelfish 02:23, 11 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (File:Timelysm.jpeg)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Timelysm.jpeg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:11, 18 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
