Zabey is a unique nickname for the proper name Elizabeth. Rather than take the beginning or the end of the name, it takes the middle part: eliZABEth, thus ZABE, and add a Y, thus Zabey.

Its first use as a nickname for Elizabeth can be sited to Stow, Ohio in 1995. A few teenager females were bored on a schoolbus to Our Lady of the Elms High School in Akron, OH. They decided all other nicknames for Elizabeth were boring, thus they created the new nickname of Zabey.

The a is to be pronounced short, like the a in Elizabeth
