On Wikipedia:Requested_articles there is a request for Benzone. Is this just a misspelling of Benzene, or is it something different that I simply don't know about?

Or it may be a misspelling of benzine? -- Gutza 09:15, 2 Aug 2003 (UTC)
I believe it's genuine: in chemistry you change the suffix of the name to represent different characteristics. For example sorbose - sugar; sorbitol - sugar alcohol, and so on. Dysprosia 09:23, 2 Aug 2003 (UTC)
Benzone is apparently a non-standard name for Phenylbutazone -- Tim Starling 13:59, Aug 2, 2003 (UTC)

In accordance with Wikipedia:WikiProject_Drugs naming policy, I propose we move this page to the INN phenylbutazone. If you have any concern with this proposal, please discuss it on this page. Matt 18:09, 23 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Besides websites that have gotten their information from this article, I have found only a few websites so far that use the name benzone for phenylbutazone, but a number of websites which use the name phenylbutazone for 4-Butyl-1,2-diphenyl-3,5-pyrazolidinedione. My conclusion is that phenylbutazone is clearly the preferred name for this compound. Accordingly, I agree with the idea of moving this page or the information on phenylbutazone to a new phenylbutazone page and making this page a disambiguation page having a link to the phenylbutazone page and leaving the information on benzophenone-related sunscreens behind here. Phenylbutazone is a very widely used and current term. Benzone is not. This page and the page Bute (horse) need to be merged into Phenylbutazone and this page needs to become a disambiguation Malcolm Morley 17:12, 14 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
[edit]

When I clicked on the external link to "IARC monograph on carcinogenicity of phenylbutazone", I got the message "The page cannot be found." Maybe this webpage is gone. H Padleckas 08:51, 16 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Now fixed. It is IARC Group 3. Physchim62 18:28, 29 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
