Welcome!

Hello, Peacenik, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Where to ask a question, ask me on my talk page, or place {{helpme}} on your talk page and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Again, welcome!

Thanks for your edit, but we already have a page that discusses the term as well as the book Utopia. To learn more try out the above links. Thanks again. :) Arminius 04:23, 18 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Cosmotheism

[edit]

The reverts on Cosmotheism are made because one of the worst editors in Wikipedia history is obsessed with having the article slanted in favor of Wm. Pierce. Please read this page User:Paul Vogel before considering whether we are being fair to an anonymous editor who signs his name 'PV'. I am not a Vogel authority, but I believe that one of the reasons the Cosmotheism article was turned into a re-direct is that Vogel exhausted everyone's patience. As for Chardin, the link to Cosmotheism is no longer there. If you're interested in this topic, other editors, like user:Mirv, may be able to give you more of the history. Arecibo message non-prime number

[edit]

Your perspicacity is exceeded only by your pulchritude! I've reworded it, though I can't claim responsibility for the original gaffe. (I think that entire sentence could stand to be be wholly reworked.) Kbh3rd 18:20, 2 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Opus Dei

[edit]

"Opus Dei has approximately 85,000 odd members in sixty countries, with central offices in Rome. In 1982 it was erected as a Personal Prelature by Pope John Paul II, who also canonized its founder on 6 October 2002.

Have you met any? Maybe it was right already.

--Peacenik 21:27, 10 Apr 2005 (UTC)"

I'm sure it was right and they're all very odd :) Just in case I misconstrued your comment - I deleted "odd" because it was made redundant by the "approximately", and is too conversational in style for an encyclopaedia IMHO. I'm still inexperienced around Wikipedia - wasn't sure whether to reply on my own discussion page or yours - so I did both! Cheers. Jez 22:49, 10 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Enlightening What is Enlightenment?

[edit]

I don't properly understand what you've done here. The redirect has been put in incorrectly, and the link from Enlightenment (concept) which refers back to the entry is now a circular reference. The year-old talk comment suggesting this change appears to be from a previous move. Things look to be a bit of a mess at the moment, so I'll most likely simply revert your change. Notability of Alice Gerard

[edit]

A tag has been placed on Alice Gerard requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article appears to be about a real person, organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable. If this is the first page that you have created, then you should read the guide to writing your first article.

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the article (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Thomas.macmillan (talk) 00:49, 12 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Anthony de Mello (Jesuit)

[edit]

Please do not add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia. Wikipedia is not a collection of links, nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Inappropriate links include (but are not limited to) links to personal web sites, links to web sites with which you are affiliated, and links that attract visitors to a web site or promote a product. See the external links guideline and spam guideline for further explanations. Since Wikipedia uses the nofollow attribute value, its external links are disregarded by most search engines. If you feel the link should be added to the article, please discuss it on the article's talk page rather than re-adding it. Thank you. [1] --Ronz (talk) 15:47, 20 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Notification: changes to "Mark my edits as minor by default" preference

[edit]

Hello there. This is an automated message to tell you about the gradual phasing out of the preference entitled "Mark all edits minor by default", which you currently have (or very recently had) enabled.

On 13 March 2011, this preference was hidden from the user preferences screen as part of efforts to prevent its accidental misuse (consensus discussion). This had the effect of locking users in to their existing preference, which, in your case, was true. To complete the process, your preference will automatically be changed to false in the next few days. This does not require any intervention on your part and you will still be able to manually mark your edits as being 'minor'. The only thing that's changed is that you will no longer have them marked as minor by default.

For established users such as yourself there is a workaround available involving custom JavaScript. If you are familiar with the contents of WP:MINOR, and believe that it is still beneficial to the encyclopedia to have all your edits marked as such by default, then this discussion will give you the details you need to continue with this functionality indefinitely. If you have any problems, feel free to drop me a note.

Thank you for your understanding and happy editing :) Editing on behalf of User:Jarry1250, LivingBot (talk) 19:31, 14 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
