Caresty?

[edit]

"In 1821 caresty led to a revolt of the population…" I know "Caresty" only as a proper name, what's this about? Introduced in this edit. - Jmabel | Talk 23:23, 2 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

This has now been corrected to "famine". - Jmabel | Talk 17:15, 9 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The Catalan-speaking territories Table

[edit]

This table, which includes the following subdivisions: (History of Catalonia · Counts of Barcelona · Crown of Aragon · Treaty of the Pyrenees · Catalan constitutions Generalitat de Catalunya · Generalitat Valenciana · Govern de les Illes Balears · Consell General de les Valls (Andorra) · Politics of Catalonia · Catalan nationalism) among others, as it has nothing to do in an italian territory wikipage.

For the catalan speaking fact, I believe it is already correctly explained in the normal text. I quote:

"Language A minority of people in Alghero speak a Catalan dialect from when Catalan invaders repopulated the town after expelling the autochthonous Sardinian population in 1372. Catalan was replaced as the official language by Spanish in the seventeenth century, then by Italian. The most recent linguistic research conducted showed that 22.4% of the population speak Algherese Catalan as a first language and around 90% have some understanding of the language"

For this reason, I am erasing it. Maurice27 12:50, 8 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Official website of Alghero

[edit]

Why official website of Alghero is in Italian and Catalan, if Catalan it has nothing to do in an Italian-territory wikipage?

Pmmollet(Talk) 12:03, 10 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Stop poisoning wikipedia. Nobody is talkin about the language in this template. I am talking about the geography, politics and arts of CATALONIA in the template. Change those sections with facts about Alghero and the template will remain. Maurice27 15:04, 10 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Then I add the template related exclusively with the language. Regards.--Xtv - (my talk) - (que dius que què?) 13:19, 22 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
That seems correct to me, regards Maurice27 02:58, 25 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I see your comments on the Alguer's talk section (and in other sections where you participated), and I sadly see how a wikipedian is using Wikipedia in order to spread anti-catalan (therefore nationalist) ideas. Wikipedia should be a neutral and objective encyclopedia, and in Alguer, even if you don't like it, they speak Catalan. Therefore it is totally appropiate to display it, as it is to add the Catalan version of the city hall's website, because this is a page talking about Alguer, not about Italian language in Alguer.
I thought that the bloody anti-Catalan indoctrination was only a matter of the Wikipedia in Spanish, but I sadly see that is present in other Wikipedias as well. It is very sad indeed. 2A02:8428:2003:9001:9119:ED59:741D:AD24 (talk) 20:42, 17 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I imagine it would be good if it did load. But it doesn’t seem to. If it comes back, please review and (if its good) restore

Language

[edit]

I don't see why we need to specify that Italian is the dominant language, given that we're talking about an Italian city. The only reason the article has a "Language" section at all is to draw attention to a peculiarity of this particular Italian city, namely that a minority of its inhabitants are native speakers of a language that is not Italian. Hence "A minority of people in Alghero..."

I would also suggest that any edit that includes the phrase "Algherese Catalan, introduced when Catalan invaders..." is missing the point that what distinguishes Algherese Catalan from other variants of Catalan is its development in isolation *since* 1372.
