VEISHEA

[edit]

Cancelling VEISHEA. What has the world come to? I remember ditching school (with parent's note) to go fuck around in the Union when I was in Fourth Grade, and hang out and see pottery wheel demonstrations at the art department. I feel like a relic of another time. -- Decumanus | Talk 00:18, 28 Apr 2004 (UTC)

Article Licensing

[edit]

Hi, I've started a drive to get users to multi-license all of their contributions that they've made to either (1) all U.S. state, county, and city articles or (2) all articles, using the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike (CC-by-sa) v1.0 and v2.0 Licenses or into the public domain if they prefer. The CC-by-sa license is a true free documentation license that is similar to Wikipedia's license, the GFDL, but it allows other projects, such as WikiTravel, to use our articles. Since you are among the top 2000 Wikipedians by edits, I was wondering if you would be willing to multi-license all of your contributions or at minimum those on the geographic articles. Over 90% of people asked have agreed. For More Information:

To allow us to track those users who muli-license their contributions, many users copy and paste the "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" template into their user page, but there are other options at Template messages/User namespace. The following examples could also copied and pasted into your user page:

Option 1
I agree to multi-license all my contributions, with the exception of my user pages, as described below:
DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual

OR

Option 2
I agree to multi-license all my contributions to any U.S. state, county, or city article as described below:
DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual

Or if you wanted to place your work into the public domain, you could replace "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" with "MultiLicensePD". If you only prefer using the GFDL, I would like to know that too. Please let me know what you think at my talk page. It's important to know either way so no one keeps asking. -- Ram-Man (comment| talk)

Image:Kernels.jpg

[edit]

Hi! Thanks for uploading Image:Kernels.jpg. I notice it currently doesn't have an image copyright tag. Could you add one to let us know its copyright status? (You can use gfdl if you release it under the GFDL, or fairuse if you claim fair use, etc.) If you don't know what any of this means, just let me know where you got the images and I'll tag them for you. Thanks so much, Quadell (talk) (help)[[]] 19:59, Dec 16, 2004 (UTC)

Dubuque/Asbury reply

[edit]

Thanks for the feedback regarding the Dubuque, Iowa & Asbury, Iowa articles. I just find it frustrating when I look at some articles that I have contributed a great deal to (and have taken the time to come up with sources for), and they are greatly reduced in quality by some user. It seems to be the same one (Bartowcounty11), so I will once again change the Dubuque and Asbury articles back. This person seems to be obsessed with including certain pieces of information (mostly "unofficial" population figures, projections, etc...). If it happens again, I will file a request for comment. Thanks for your reply.DBQer 21:57, 30 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Reversion

[edit]

Thanks for reverting edits made by BartowCounty11 to the Dubuque article, and for your warning on his/her talk page. This person is very unprofessional and doesn't seem to understand the basic concepts behind Wikipedia. I will continue to watch for erroneous changes to the article, and I trust you will do the same. Thanks! DBQer 17:42, 11 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Mall pages

[edit]

I just want to tell you that you've done a great job on the mall pages, such as Merle Hay Mall; they're very well-written and well-sourced. Your work's inspired me to improve the various mall pages I've created (check my userpage, there's a link to a list of pages I created). Thanks for the update!  :-) I was going to do it myself, but couldn't find suitable data on iptv.org, and I don't live in Iowa any more to snag an hourly ID or anything. RTucker 23:24, 16 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Pictures to Commons?

[edit]

Hello, I want to ask you, if you would upload your Pictures to wikimedia commons so we can use them on other wikipedia sites. They need to be under the Creative Commons License. That would be great. Thanks. --88.70.14.250 19:05, 10 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (Image:BWWlogo.jpg)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:BWWlogo.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 04:27, 11 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on QuikTrip, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article seems to be blatant advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an encyclopedia article. Please read the general criteria for speedy deletion, particularly item 11, as well as the guidelines on spam.

If you can indicate why the subject of this article is not blatant advertising, you may contest the tagging. To do this, please add hangon on the top of the article and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would help make it encyclopedic, as well as adding any citations from reliable sources to ensure that the article will be verifiable. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Sawblade05 (talk to me | my wiki life) 21:01, 13 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on The des moines riot, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because The des moines riot is a redirect to a non-existent page (CSD R1).

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting The des moines riot, please affix the template hangon to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. Davenport

[edit]

What do you think we can add to the Davenport, Iowa page to improve it? Do you think a section for the neighborhoods would be good. I only know very basic details about the neighborhoods. I've lived here my whole life (24 yrs), so I could help! Ctjf83 22:47, 24 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

well, i mean i don't really know many official neighborhood names, and where the boundaries are, etc. If i get time, i'll check out the library, for info. No, I dont think i'd join the Iowa project, because i only know stuff about these 2 cities, so not sure if i would be any help. How much do u know about the d-port neighborhoods? what do you think would be some good pics to add to the Davenport and Bettendorf pages..or the whole QC? Ctjf83 talk 04:04, 6 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:KZIA logo.gif

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:KZIA logo.gif. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. Iowa

[edit]

You seem to be one of the most active people for the iowa wiki project, so read my post and respond if you could under it Ctjf83 talk 20:51, 6 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm doing some famous iowans clean up right now...should we limit it to ppl only born in iowa, what do you think? Ctjf83 talk 02:08, 7 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
this project doesn't seem to be overly active...i'll post it, and if noone responds in a wk or less, one of us can be bold and just delete it, or at the very list, clean it up alot...we standards should we have for ppl to be included Ctjf83 talk 04:26, 13 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
ok, i guess the project is dead, cept for us...anyway, what do you wanna do for the "Famous Iowans" section...delete it or clean it up, and limit who gets listed? Ctjf83 talk 18:32, 17 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
So you don't think we should keep it at all? I think it is interesting to see who is from here...but then again, ppl put in a bunch of cruft to it Ctjf83 talk 03:32, 19 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, I limit it to just the most "important" people, and link the other page, and keep an eye out for people adding less than important people Ctjf83 talk 17:23, 20 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, if you wanna take a look now. I basically deleted everyone I hadn't heard of, and people not born in Iowa. Not sure if that is the best way to do it, but it worked to cut back a lot on the number of people listed Ctjf83 talk 17:33, 20 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm gonna work on getting Davenport and then Iowa to a GAC. Would you be interested in helping with either article. Two users have given suggestions (1) (2) to improve the Davenport article. Let me know if you would like to help! Ctjf83 talk 20:41, 26 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, I added the IOWA DOT map along with your site, one more thing Question - You say it goes for 108 miles in Iowa, is this accurate? I counted them on the map an it appears to be about that but I wouldn't want to put it on DYK just to fid out it was wrong. -Marcusmax(speak) 02:27, 22 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Just letting you know that I nominated Merle Hay Mall for Good Article status. Any chance that you could get an internal picture of the mall? Ten Pound Hammer and his otters • (Broken clamshellsOtter chirpsHELP) 00:40, 31 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (Image:HyVee-logo.gif)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:HyVee-logo.gif.

Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:05, 20 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Iowa

[edit]

Hmm. You seem to be fairly well schooled on Iowa malls. Do you have any idea if the McGregor's Furniture store at Westland Mall in Burlington used to be anything else? I can't find anything about it online. Ten Pound Hammer and his otters • (Broken clamshellsOtter chirpsHELP) 19:57, 9 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Iowa tourism regions

[edit]

Hello from Wikitravel! I've been trying to get a discussion going over there [1] to define travel regions for Iowa, but it would seem we don't have a single active Iowan user around. So I hoped I might be able to solicit some help here. If you're not interested, do you know of anyone else who might be? Thanks! --Peter Talk 04:34, 26 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

File:Redstone Building.jpg is now available on Wikimedia Commons as Commons:File:Redstone Building.jpg. This is a repository of free media that can be used on all Wikimedia wikis. You can embed an image uploaded to Commons like you would an image uploaded to Wikipedia, in this case: . An editor has nominated one or more articles which you have created or worked on, for deletion. The nominated article is List of The Price Is Right pricing games. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also Wikipedia:Notability and "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion(s) by adding your comments to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of The Price Is Right pricing games (2nd nomination). Please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate.

Please note: This is an automatic notification by a bot. I have nothing to do with this article or the deletion nomination, and can't do anything about it. --Erwin85Bot (talk) 01:07, 4 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for File:Butter Cow.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Butter Cow.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Kelly hi! 01:46, 29 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

FYI, I tagged it as replaceable fair use, as it should be possible to get a free image of a butter sculpture (from a butter sculptor, if nobody else). There is a related discussion at Commons here. Kelly hi! 01:24, 31 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

CST CDT confusion

[edit]

Hi there - please see this and this. I may be wrong, I'm certainly confused, but I may also be right, as the song has it. :) Cheers DBaK (talk) 11:14, 21 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Westdale Mall, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page KWWL (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

File:Kum&GoLogo.jpg missing description details

[edit]
Dear uploader: The media file you uploaded as:

is missing a description and/or other details on its image description page. If possible, please add this information. This will help other editors make better use of the image, and it will be more informative to readers.

If the information is not provided, the image may eventually be proposed for deletion, a situation which is not desirable, and which can easily be avoided.

If you have any questions, please see Help:Image page. Thank you. Theo's Little Bot (error?) 05:09, 14 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Notification of automated file description generation

[edit]

Your upload of File:Cedar Rapids Ice Arena.jpg or contribution to its description is noted, and thanks (even if belatedly) for your contribution. In order to help make better use of the media, an attempt has been made by an automated process to identify and add certain information to the media's description page.

This notification is placed on your talk page because a bot has identified you either as the uploader of the file, or as a contributor to its metadata. It would be appreciated if you could carefully review the information the bot added. To opt out of these notifications, please follow the instructions here. Thanks! Younkers photos

[edit]

I'm looking to improve the information on a couple of photos you uploaded. A long time ago, you uploaded two versions of File:Younkers.jpg, which eventually became File:Des Moines Younkers 1.jpg (uploaded in 2004) and File:Des Moines Younkers 2.jpg (uploaded in 2007) on Commons. I suspect someone used the wrong file's description when moving File:Des Moines Younkers 1.jpg to Commons. I'm not from Des Moines, but 1 sure doesn't look like any part of the old downtown store to me. Which store is it? I've requested an undeletion of the original upload at Wikipedia:Requests for undeletion#File:Younkers.jpg, but I also wanted to ask you, since you'd probably know. Also, is that a crop of another file? And were the photos actually taken in 2004 and 2007, or scanned in from something older? --Closeapple (talk) 04:52, 23 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The first Younkers photo was at Jordan Creek Town Center, and that was taken in 2004 when I still had a film camera. The other was the original store in downtown Des Moines, and that was taken in 2007, after the store closed but before that part of the building burned down. --Iowahwyman (talk) 00:44, 24 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! Based on the information, I've renamed File:Des Moines Younkers 1.jpg to File:Younkers entrance Jordan Creek Town Center 2004.jpg and corrected its information, and strengthened the date line on File:Des Moines Younkers 2.jpg. (As you probably know by now, you don't need to overwrite photographs with other photographs: It's OK to upload multiple photographs of similar subjects, and just use different filenames.) --Closeapple (talk) 04:58, 27 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
