EEPROMs

[edit]

In the serial EEPROMs(I2C, SPI etc.) we have a pin called the WP (Write Protect). As I understand this prevents any accidental over-writing. But When this pin is tied to VCC, can we write into the EEPROM?

Floppy

[edit]

I think article should have picture of write protection on a floppy disk. That is like what write protection is all about. That is like where the term is from. What write protection is most well known for. It is all about the floppy!

Physical mechanism?

[edit]

This article states that "[w]rite protection is a physical mechanism . . . ." Is electronic protection a "physical mechanism"? Put another way, is it accurate to identify electronically protected data (such as a "protected", non-editable word processing document) as "write protected"?
