Hello. Could you do me one final favour before I retire from Wikipedia? I would truly appreciate it. Please respond on my talk page. Thank you. —Eternal Equinox | talk 00:46, 14 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I've come and done what I wanted to accomplish on Wikipedia. Additionally, I am currently studying elsewhere in the world and will not have any free time on my hands from June 26 forward. I would appreciate it if you could expand the data at Image:Gwen Stefani Cool chart trajectories.png in the same format because I found another chart which I believe would be useful for cruftists (such as myself). If you agree, I will place the new chart trajectory here. —Eternal Equinox | talk 21:21, 14 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Hey again. I've yet to receive a response but judging from your contributions, you've edited since I sent the last message. —Eternal Equinox | talk 22:28, 16 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry about the confusion. The image was tagged with {{NowCommonsThis}}. However, I didn't realize that the Commons version was not up to date. Music samples

[edit]

Hi, you answered a question I asked on Wikipedia Talk:Music samples about what to do if a copyrighted music sample exceded the agreed length. You said to list it for deletion etc. I need help please, because I don't know what to do. I've listed a few - including Image:07 Carmen la que contaba 16 años.ogg and Image:02 Brisas del Torbes.ogg. I notified the uploader who removed the ifd tag I placed. I reverted and the tag was again removed and replaced by a GNU tag, so I reverted and left a message on the user's talk page. (User talk:GJRFMorelligu) Once again he/she has removed the ifd tag and this time replaced it with "copyright holder allows this to be used for any purpose". There are other long samples added by the same user but I see no point in listing them if they're going to be reverted straight away. This user seems to be blindly and randomly selecting tags to put on these files but what can I do? As soon as I tag the page, it's being reverted, and a new, incorrect tag put in its place. Any suggestions or help would be welcome. Thanks Rossrs 13:44, 18 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

UN resolutions

[edit]

Hi Cedar-Guardian! Great name for the protector of a great nation! I noticed that you have been working on the UN resolutions regarding Lebanon in Lebanon and the United Nations, just dawned on me that the resolution texts could be in Wikisource. And yes, it turns out that some diligent people are adding the full text to every UN resolution since 1946 to Wikisource. You can find them at Wikisource:UN Security Council Resolutions, and they have so far put in everything between 1946 and 1960. This means that that those currently red resolution numbers in Lebanon and the United Nations should of course link there, and if you want to run ahead of them because you have access to resolution texts regarding Lebanon for later years, they have already created a page as well as a format for the text, so you would only have to pop it in there and then link it to Lebanon and the United Nations.

When I find the time, I'll be happy to lend a hand to your Lebanon project. I started to re-write the then dreadful history article remotely (i.e. in Word) some time ago, but left it for more urgent stuff (such as the current disaster). I just had a look and noticed that it has already been much improved in a month's time. Best regards Thomas Blomberg 04:27, 10 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I've taken your advice and moved this article over to a table format. Arabic MoS vs NC

[edit]

May I refer to the discussion at Wikipedia talk:Manual of Style (Arabic)#A possible error in the guideline?:

are all presented as "correct" ways of writing Abdul Aziz.

Note that Abdul Aziz is a disambig page, while Abd al-Aziz and `Abdu'l-`Aziz both redirect to Abdülaziz - not mentioned in the list of "correct" spellings invented by the four people discussing on the MoS talk page... but apparently Abdülaziz is the correct way of writing this person's name. And it has a few other redirects, not mentioned by those summing up the so-called "correct" ways of writing the name, Abd-ul-Aziz, ‘Abdu’l-‘Aziz, Abdül Aziz, etc.

Hence my conclusion that Wikipedia:Manual of Style (Arabic) is:

  1. Messy, even those experienced with the guideline seem unable to unambiguously derive from it what way to write a name;
  2. Useless when it comes to article naming.

How to solve these problems? I don't know: I'm not experienced in Arabic. But it needs no experience to see that even those that *are* experienced can't work with it. That may be OK for a MoS guideline (I'm not that much of an expert in MoS guidelines), but for a naming conventions guideline (where I have a bit more experience) I can only say that this won't do: the minimum standards for such guidelines are not near to be met.

So I see two possibilities:

  • Keep the NC part out of the MoS, so the MoS can be guideline (and the NC part of course not more than "proposed") - that's the course I followed up till now.
  • Keep NC included in the MoS, in which case there's no way the MoS can be promoted to guideline: in that case it will have to stay "proposed" until the problems are solved - that's what I'll do when it's insisted that they be kept together.

FYI, these are the requirements for promoting a NC proposal to NC guideline (copied from the intro of the wikipedia:naming conventions policy page):

If you wish to propose a new naming convention, do so on Wikipedia talk:Naming conventions, whilst also publicising the proposal at Requests for comment and the Village Pump, as well as at any related pages. Once a strong consensus has formed, it can be adopted as a naming convention and listed below.

Please fulfill these conditions (including the patience needed for a strong consensus to form) once you think there's enough coherence in the proposal, for it to be made one of the naming conventions guidelines. --Francis Schonken 13:40, 26 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Greetings, I saw your comment on Wikipedia_talk:Neutral point of view and thought that I'd just comment to you about that. The problem that you will encounter is the undue weight portion of NPOV. Is the alternative definition you're referring to significant (ie: known by a large population)? (Netscott) 11:56, 27 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

In case you haven't watchlisted my talk page, I can't think of a suitable section heading at the moment. I'll keep thinking, likewise if you have any other ideas please let me know :) Cheers! --kingboyk 19:23, 28 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

About my question about the water dispute between Israel and Lebanon

[edit]

Hello, I asked questions about Hezbollah and the 2002 water conflict in "Humanities". I thought it would we wiser to ask you this here.. Have you any idea about how the dispute in 2002 ended. On a Lebanon forum elsewhere, they told me that eventually a compromise was created : Lebanon pumps water for human consumption, not for agricultural. Is that correct? OK. I understand your viewpoint. Just thought I'd ask. But after watching FACs all this time, it seems to me Raul654 waits until there've been 4 or more people who participated. I'm not saying it hasn't happened that an article made FA with less participation, but that's what it looks like to me. For example, last week an article made FA with some objects and lots of supports after just 5 days and others were left on the list that'd been there for two weeks already that had 3 supports and no objects. I've never totally figured out how he decides this FAC stuff-;). Thanks for the input again! Rlevse 20:09, 2 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Jan Smuts templates

[edit]

Yes, the Template:JanSmutsFooter is now favoured for the article series (you will have noted, I'm sure, it is the only template used in the Early life article). Template:JanSmutsSegments is largely vestigial. Most of the articles of the series require referencing, pictures, etc - as I get on to them this latter template will go (it has also been removed from the presently under revision Jan Smuts in the South African Republic article).

I note that you have made some alterations to the lead section of the Early life article, reducing it in size. Your contributions are, of course, more than welcome - I just wonder at your reasoning for the change. Can you point me in the direction of any policy or guideline which mandates against being 'off-topic'? You'll possibly have noticed my justification for including an overview of the entirity of his life on the FAC page:

As for including biographical details beyond the immediate scope of the article, I've always thought it important to set some kind of context. If articles are to be 'stand alone' then it's important to give an outline of exactly who the man was, before considering the particluar aspect of his life that the page covers (all IMHO).

In the absence of policy, what you have is a stylistic objection - which I'm more than happy to discuss.

Best wishes, Xdamrtalk 21:46, 2 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Syria and Lebanon

[edit]

Hi, if you're around you might note another severe outbreak on Talk:Syrian occupation of Lebanon (yes, it's been moved there again) and Talk:May 17 Agreement, where we are informed that Robert Fisk is a very pro-Arab author and - I infer - therefore it counts more when he describes the Syrian domination of Lebanon as an occupation. Obviously all Arabs can be taken to automatically like Syria, whether they're Syrian, Lebanese or Saudi Arabs, once they start pronouncing those ض´s they go weak at the knees at the sight of Dr. Bashar. Palmiro | Talk 02:22, 30 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Your edit of Whitstable

[edit]

Hi. I know it's not a particularly good guideline, but according to Wikipedia:Guide to layout#Standard appendices and descriptions, portal templates belong in See Also sections, and I was forced to put it in that section by a FAC reviewer. I just thought I'd make you aware of the guideline. Thanks. Epbr123 09:17, 16 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Guardian! About your concerns, the award now goes to the producer, but it is unclear who actually got it in the past. I will try to research more. In doubt, I provided both. About the "gold" for "gray", I saw complaints in other lists that the gold was too light for some screens, so I tried something more visible. I do not have a personal preference... what do you think? I have only my own screen to test :-( Now that it is a FL, I am a bit wary of changing it...

Creating a template for birthday and age

[edit]

I was trying to create the birthday and age for Padma Lakshmi but when I tried to do it all that happened was this: (1970-09-01) September 1, 1970 (age 54). Could you please help me out and teach me how to do it? Thanks. þ

- Never mind there must have been an error with the page or something that I was doing wrong. Thanks anyway. þ

Hi
What happend to the Christian inhabitents of the village after it was taken over by PLO? In the Hebrew wiki it says many (including children and women) were massacred. The article in the English wiki only says they fled and did not return until 1982, without specifying why.

Thanks.

So we speak 22 languages?

[edit]

Can you please help Zerida (and her sock-puppets) understand that Egyptian Arabic is a dialect (because now she is claiming that its a language!), I think she is already taking it personal! (Egyptian Arabic)I mean once they declare every dialect a Language I will have a beautiful resume with 22 languages on it, but as of now unfortunately the constituition of Egypt and every Arab nation only recognizes one Arabic language as the only Arabic language!--Skatewalk 18:08, 15 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Wrath of God

[edit]

Thanks for the heads up, I will do so soon. If you have some extra time I would actually recommend watching the youtube video, which seems to be a production by Ostrovsky himself. In the second part he actually claims that not only was the Norwegian Secret Service cooperating with the Mossad on killing "Salameh" in Lillehammer, but that Mike Harari instructed Dan Aerbel to give himself up to Norwegian authorities and admit his involvement in order to protect a Mossad source in the Norwegian secret service itself. Unfortunately I can't seem to find when this video was made or who broadcast it. Joshdboz 23:00, 14 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Peer review Hezbollah

[edit]

Hi, I found that you requested for a peer review for Hezbollah two years ago[2]. Now this article has changed a lot and it is going to be an FA. You may like to participate in our attempts by adding your idea in a new peer review[3].

Hi again, I read your good review. Our first problem id the length of the article. As you may see this article has several sub-article which contain most of what you've mentioned but we urged to move some information to reduce the size of the article. Even we moved the history. If we add some more information we will reach 100kb. Our second problem is that there isn't any Lebanese who can add something about Lebanese viewpoint. We would be grateful if you could help us. By the way thanks for your suggestions.--Seyyed(t-c) 03:45, 20 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

An editor has nominated one or more articles which you have created or worked on, for deletion. The nominated article is Index of Lebanon-related articles. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also Wikipedia:Notability and "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion(s) by adding your comments to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Index of Lebanon-related articles. Please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate.

Please note: This is an automatic notification by a bot. I have nothing to do with this article or the deletion nomination, and can't do anything about it. --Erwin85Bot (talk) 01:21, 29 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Suspension of admin privileges due to inactivity

[edit]

Following a community discussion in June 2011, consensus was reached to provisionally suspend the administrative privileges of users who have been inactive for one year, meaning administrators who have made neither any edits nor any logged actions in over one year. As a result of this discussion, your administrative privileges have been removed pending your return. If you wish to have these privileges reinstated, please post to the Wikipedia:Bureaucrats' noticeboard and the userright will be restored per the re-sysopping process (i.e., as long as the attending bureaucrats are reasonably satisfied that your account has not been compromised and that your inactivity did not have the effect of evading scrutiny of any actions which might have led to sanctions). This removal of access is procedural only, and not intended to reflect negatively upon you in any way. We wish you the best in future endeavors, and thank you for your past administrative efforts. RL0919 (talk) 20:15, 8 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Notice of change

[edit]

Hello. You are receiving this message because of a recent change to the administrator policy that alters what you were told at the time of your desysopping. The effect of the change is that you will not longer be able to request restoration of the tools because of your prior inactivity. You have until December 30, 2012 to request restoration or else the policy will prevent you from doing so in the future; you would need to seek a new WP:RFA. Until December 30, you can file a request at WP:BN for review by the crats. Thank you. MBisanz talk 04:22, 3 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
