Ambiguous sexuality made more ambiguous
[edit]"Aspects of ambiguous sexuality and gender conflict in the story are also addressed in essays by Shirley Garner and William W.E. Slights albeit all the characters are played by males."
I feel very strongly that this sentence ought to be rewritten to bring out, if possible, precisely what the editor meant – as it stands, it is almost useless. The use of male actors does not detract from the portrayal of ambiguous sexuality, at least if the reputation of Cloud Nine is anything to go by. Harfarhs (talk) 09:15, 13 June 2023 (UTC)
- Yes, I agree it's nonsense. I've trawled back through the history, and the page has said exactly this for many years. I was hoping the original would help, but if you go back far enough you just get to a version which says "Aspects of ambiguous sexuality and gender conflict in the story are also addressed in essays by Shirley Garner and William W. E. Slights" which is definitely not worth saying by itself! I've deleted it, but obviously I'd encourage anyone who's interested to look up the sources and add some meaningful content to the section. - This bit has been removed, though the queer theory boilerplate quoted from Green that now appears under the "Ambiguous sexuality" is not much better. 64.85.227.176 (talk) 20:32, 18 April 2024 (UTC)
Subplots
[edit]The first sentence of the plot summary asserts that there are "five interconnecting plots," but the reader is left to infer what those plots might be. Some reputable sources claim that there are four subplots. Before making a change, let me propose that either "five" be replaced by the vaguer word "several," or that someone who actually discerns five plots expand the initial paragraph by briefly enumerating them. - Yes, I agree with this suggestion. AndyJones (talk) 12:15, 4 June 2024 (UTC)
